Looking back on Yolanda Tucker’s humble beginnings in Waycross, Georgia and the colossal struggles she would be faced with as life followed its journey, many people counted her completely out along the way.
Tucker’s first book, entitled Blessed Beyond Belief, chronicles how she lived past child molestation, abuse, abandonment, depression, an STD, teen pregnancy, motherhood and domestic violence.
Tucker, a survivor by force, recently released her second book entitled Lessons Learned My Reflection at a private book signing for family and friends on August 29, 2009. When asked why she chose to share her personal stories of triumph, Tucker said “As I was reflecting one day, I looked back and saw the fullness of my life. As I watched my movie play before my eyes, I realized that a good life wasn’t about how much money I had or the material things I possessed but it was about when God made what I had more than enough. It was then that I realized that I was suppose to share the pearls of wisdom that I had been blessed to experience to inspire and motivate others to chase and achieve their dreams.
Tucker’s mantra is and has been for a long time that she may be down but never out. The testament to that belief is that at 34, she has raised two younger brothers and a son. One brother is a teacher, the other brother an entrepreneur and that little boy that she held in her arms at age sixteen is now a freshman at a Florida university.
In addition to her personal successes, Tucker was awarded the coveted Royal Palm Literary Award for Blessed Beyond Belief and she has received numerous awards for speaking including The Powerful Words of Wisdom award from the University of North Florida and the Key to the City of Lake Charles, LA. I’d say Tucker was right and that more amazing things are coming her way.
