IanAndWendy.com is known for its wonderful travel photos with pictures of many of the 51 countries to which Ian and Wendy have traveled together. The site also offers reviews of hotels, motels, hostels and other types of accommodation, information on tours, and restaurant reviews. From their Africa safari to their Nile cruise, shopping at Karama in Dubai or out to dinner at Les Roulottes in Tahiti - Ian and Wendy offer the avid traveler advice and inspiration and the armchair traveler a chance to tour the world from the comfort of their living room.

IanAndWendy.com’s initial focus was on travel photography. Many readers wrote asking for advice on transportation, hotels, restaurants and tours. Ian and Wendy would respond, but there was nowhere on the site to share that information. So, over the last few years they have expanded their traditional website to include a blog. This addition has allowed them to provide readers with more detailed information and reviews.

End of the summer reports released by Jared Brague, the Senior Vice President of Business Development, indicate that sales numbers have exceeded expectations and have even broken records previously made for the company last year. From a comparison of last year's report, total income for the company has increased by an impressive 69.33 percent.

One brother is a teacher, the other brother an entrepreneur and that little boy that she held in her arms at age sixteen is now a freshman at a Florida university.

In addition to her personal successes, Tucker was awarded the coveted Royal Palm Literary Award for Blessed Beyond Belief and she has received numerous awards for speaking including The Powerful Words of Wisdom award from the University of North Florida and the Key to the City of Lake Charles, LA. Rick Alvarez, a Verde Valley resident and husband of nurse Linda Alvarez, was diagnosed with incurable bladder cancer in 2007. The cancer has now spread to his pelvic bones and resulted in lymphedema of the legs. Mr. Alvarez continues to undergo courses of chemotherapy at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, two hours away. His insurance is insufficient to cover the costs.

"Our medical bills now total over $30,000 -- much more than Rick's life insurance policy," said Alvarez's wife, Linda, "With Rick being unable to work, we've had to rely solely on my income, which doesn't cover the mortgage. Sadly, we'll be losing our home to foreclosure next month."

Mr. Alvarez, 48, a heavy equipment operator by trade, as well as an avid fisherman and motorcyclist, is the father of five children and two step-children, two of which still live with him and his wife.

A group of Mrs. Alvarez's co-workers has spearheaded a movement to secure donations for the Alvarez family. Together with friends, and family, they've held several money-raising functions to date and have a special fundraising dinner planned for later this month. "Although the outpouring of moral support and volunteerism has been tremendous, we're still far short of our goal. Last week freelance writer Dana Neuts of Kent was elected to the national board of the Society of Professional Journalists during its annual conference. Serving a two-year term, Neuts was named to the position of regional director for Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. She will serve SPJ chapters and members in those states as well as act as their representative on the national SPJ board. She has also been asked to serve on the national freelance committee.

Previously, Neuts served as the president of the Western Washington Pro Chapter of SPJ, which was named Large Chapter of the Year for the third time at last week’s conference. In addition, the chapter received Circle of Excellence awards for its work in diversity and campus relations. This new musical tells the story of two childhood friends and how that friendship profoundly defined their lives. Thomas Weaver is a best selling, award-winning author. Alvin Kelby was his best friend for thirty years. But time can test the bonds of friendship – and when it does, Thomas calls on the only resource he has – his stories of Alvin – to learn where things went wrong. Heading the production is Bartlett High School's Technical Theatre Director and Introspect Theatre's founding artistic director, Jeff Linamen. Administrative & Healthy Home Requirements:
________ 1.10 UNDERSTAND OPTIONAL COSTS. Recognize that many Energy Efficient architects choices are options and that some of these may cost you more money.
________ 1.35 CLEAN UP. Provide 2 dumpsters. One for recycled construction materials, the other for landfill trash. You should be able to recycle about half of the debris that normally goes to the dump.
________ 1.80 HEALTHY HOME DESIGN. This is a trademarked process invented by green home architects Rand Soellner Architect, created to make homes under construction healthier. There is not enough space in this one article to include all of it. Here are some items:
________ 1.81 Food Trash Disposal. Do not eat food within the home under construction if at all possible; morsels end up in the built home and in the ductwork, where bacteria grows. If you can’t stop this from happening, have one large plastic trash barrel in the home with a plastic bag in it and have the jobsite foreman place this into the trash dumpster daily.
________ 1.82 Ductwork. Do not use absorbent surfaces in duct Interiors. Use metal or non-combustible plastic or foil, that are anti-bacterial. Wrap the Exterior of ducts with insulation. Angle ductwork so that there are no low points to gather moisture. Clean ductwork interiors after installation and before owner move-in.
________ 1.84 Sealants, Air Tightness. Control where fresh air enters your home. This should be accomplished through your HVAC system and your choice to open and close windows, rather than infiltration (uncontrolled gaps where air spills into and out of your home, which can be costly when you pay to heat, cool and filter your air). This is a large section and there is not space to do this justice here, sorry.
________ 1.85 Use Non-Toxic Materials. No formaldehyde, only carpets with “green tags” with no toxic off-gasing containing alcohols and other damaging substances. The less carpet the better; it is almost impossible to keep clean, especially with pets.
________ 1.86 Window Treatments. No looped cords as draw strings for blinds; babies have been strangled by these in the past.
________ 1.87 Paint. No lead. Ventilate spaces being painted.
________ 1.88 Use Less Paper. There is a lot of paper in home construction. For instance, normal gypsum board (also called “drywall”) has a paper skin. There are paperless drywalls. Paper absorbs moisture and grows mold and mildew (that’s a “green” you don’t want!), also bugs eat paper and it would be better not to feed creepy-crawlies in your house.
________ 1.89 Professional Cleaning. Most contractors are not equipped nor have patience for expert cleaning. There are companies that do this. You need it. Get rid of all of the construction sawdust and debris down to a damp mopping before you move in. Every surface (including top of ceiling fan blades) need to be cleaned before you expose your family to your new custom home.
________ 1.810 Irrigation & Gutters & Downspouts. Do not allow irrigation spray to contact your home or drip next to foundations or basement walls. Water spray on structures is a major source of “sick buildings,” per Rand Soellner, AIA/NCARB. www.randarch.com
________ 1.811 Wall Finishes. Do Not install impervious plastic wall finishes on the Interior side of Exterior walls, like vinyl wall covering. You will have mold and mildew.

The response has been “very positive,” stated Jim Sargen. “In addition, recreation students have used the equipment as part of a teaching experience, and other instructors and coaches use the equipment as part of their programs.”

The TriActive CEO chose to donate the three new pieces because he wanted to “build on the positive experience from the original installation. In addition, this is an opportunity to thank those who have used the equipment for their own exercise as well as instructors and coaches. • In this tough market, many housebuilders are offering some great incentive packages to attract buyers. Look around to see what’s available in your area. Many developers will pay your stamp duty, legal fees and moving expenses. Some will even pay your mortgage for a year.

• However, incentives can be a double edged sword. Many mortgage lenders don’t offer their best deals on new-build homes, as they say incentives make it hard to value the unit accurately. Some lenders won’t touch new-builds at all, so shop around for your finance.

• If you are selling a home in order to buy a new-build property, it’s worth considering a part-exchange deal. Most major housebuilders operate them, and although you’ll receive a slightly lower price than the full market value, you are guaranteed a sale and avoid the risk of your chain collapsing.

• Don’t forget that if your combined household income is less than £60,000, you my be eligible for one of the government’s Homebuy schemes. These enable you to buy part of the equity on a new home and pay rent on the rest. You can buy further slices of equity as and when you can afford it.

• If you reserve a new home early in the construction stage, you will be able to choose some of the interior specification. Most housebuilders will offer a choice of kitchen units, flooring, carpets, tiles etc. In some cases you can even specify elements of the home’s internal layout.

• Don’t forget your insurance. If you’re buying with a mortgage, your lender will insist you have buildings insurance valid from the day of exchanging contracts. Many insurers offer significant discounts if you buy combined buildings and contents insurance.

• Make sure any new-build units you are considering are covered by a warranty. Most housebuilders use the NHBC, others available include Zurich and Premier Guarantee. But remember a warranty does not guarantee a defect-free home. If buying with a mortgage, your lender won’t release funds until it has seen the warranty.

• You may want to think about getting your home checked for defects – or “snagged” – by an independent company that does not work for housebuilders. Ideally, this should be done before legal completion, so the developer can rectify any defects before you move in.

• Take a tape measure to your prospective new home and record the internal dimensions – including ceiling height – to make sure your furniture will fit. Pay particular attention to the stairs and door widths, and don’t forget the garage, as these are often designed for small to medium-sized cars.

• Think about timing. If the housebuilder you have chosen is listed on the stock exchange, it will be very keen to sell homes in the run up to its financial year-end. This makes its figures look better to the City, and the builder will probably be more flexible over price at this time, and more open to offers.

Save China's Tigers has launched the "Wildcat Fund” to support worldwide projects in wildcat research, conservation, as well as reintroduction efforts for highly endangered and vulnerable wild cats.

Save China's Tigers, a charitable foundation funding pioneering work with the South China Tiger, has broadened its scope of conservation goals from tigers to include all wild cats around the world. Today it launched the "Wildcat Fund” to encourage and support wild cat research, conservation, as well as reintroduction efforts for highly endangered and vulnerable wild cats.

There are currently thirty-seven species of wild cats, with many facing uncertain futures. The best known are the big cats including tigers, lions, and jaguars. Of these, the South China Tiger is the most endangered and is on the verge of extinction. However, three-quarters of the world's wild cats are smaller species and many of these are also highly endangered such as the Iriomote Cat, the Andean Mountain cat, Borneo Bay cat, and the Flat-headed cat.

Historically, funding in wild cat conservation has favoured the large, charismatic species such as lions, cheetahs and tigers. While giving priorities to cat species having the IUCN “Endangered” status or above, Save China’s Tigers’ “Wildcat Fund” also encourages projects conducting pioneering biological and ecological research of little known cat species in an effort to increase understanding of these species and help design improved conservation actions.

Ms. Li Quan, Founding Director of Save China's Tigers said: "My passion has always been for all cats of the world. I am very pleased to be able to contribute to the conservation of all of them through Save China's Tigers’ Wildcat Fund. Over the years, we have realized that for some endangered species to survive in the wild, a multi-disciplinary approach combining captive breeding, rewilding, habitat protection and restoration, and re-introduction can make a valuable contribution to wildlife conservation and the environment. Save China’s Tigers was the first to experiment with this alternative in big cat conservation and we have made a number of significant breakthroughs in tiger conservation. We would like to apply our expertise and share our experience to help save other endangered cats of the world", says Quan.

Projects applying for funding must be proactive conservation projects led by wild cat biologists and ecologists with proven academic record, but more importantly over eight years of field experience. Proposals should not include office and administrative expenditures. "We would like to focus on field activities to counter the trend in conservation where valuable donor funding pays for office infrastructure and expensive conferences. And, we would like to make the projects we fund accountable for our benefactors", Quan added.

One of the first projects that Save China's Tigers will be funding is Brazilian Jaguar expert Dr. Peter Crawshaw's research vehicle to support his various wild cat conservation projects including jaguars, cougars and etc. Another is the rewilding and reintroduction of a female Oncilla (aka "Tiger Cat" and "Leopardus tigrinus" in Latin) in Brazil to learn if it is feasible to think of reintroducing individuals into the wild from captive conditions, as well as to study the behaviour of wild individuals of this little known cat.

With the Bank of England Rate remaining at an all-time low of 0.5% in August, now could be a good time for many borrowers to consider an offset mortgage.

An offset mortgage works by using savings you have to reduce the amount you owe on your mortgage and therefore the amount of mortgage interest you pay. For example, if you have an outstanding mortgage of £120,000 and savings of £20,000, you would only pay interest on a mortgage of £100,000. You don’t receive interest on your savings, but that also means that you don’t pay tax on that interest.

This tax benefit, added to the fact thatmortgage rates are typically higher than savings rates, means that you could save thousands of pounds in interest with an offset mortgage. Taking a mortgage rate of 3.99%, a basic rate taxpayer would need to earn at least 4.99% from a savings account to get the equivalent benefit. A higher rate taxpayer would need to earn 6.65%.

You could also cut years off your mortgage term by using the saving to make regular overpayments.

2008 Best Cinematography award winning team returns this year's New Orleans' 48 Hour Film Project 2009 contest with entry "The Ripple Effect"

Producer David “Frosty” Hemperly teamed up with locals John Swider and Joe Swider (The Swider Brothers) in New Orleans to participate in their second 48 Hour Film Project. “The Ripple Effect” was shot the weekend of August 14, 15, and 16 in New Orleans.

The 48 Hour Film Project is the oldest and largest timed film competition in the world. The 48 Hour Film Project invites filmmakers from around the world to produce a complete short movie in just two days. Shortly after the 48 hours of film making, the films from each city are then screened at a theater in that city. See the 48 Hour Film Project’s website for more information on how to get involved.

It is a contest in which teams of filmmakers are assigned a genre, a character, a prop, and a line of dialogue, and have 48 hours to create a short film containing those elements. The films will be shown on Sunday, August 23 at NOCCA.

Writer/director John Swider & producer David Hemperly’s genre assignment is science fiction, along with a rubber band for the prop, “Mabel Kotik –a gardener for the character, and “which one is the weakest link?” for the line of dialogue. All four elements had to be incorporated into the short film. Swider says, “It’s great to have Frosty [David Hemperly] come down from Washington, DC and share in this experience with us. We hope others will join in and participate, too. There’s a huge talent pool here. DC has over 100 teams. There’s no reason why Nola shouldn’t have that many teams competing.”

This is the second time Hemperly’s Star Maker Machinery collaborated with The Swider Brothers to participate in the 48 Hour Film Project in New Orleans. The movie opens at Lupin Hall Sunday afternoon. In the 2008 competition, they roped in five of the twelve awards with their movie “Grindhouse Day,” including Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Use of Prop, Best Special Effects, and Best Graphics. The film that year was a holiday film.

Star Maker Machinery's participation in the movie festival began as a collection of experienced and non-experienced film professionals in 2006. In 2006, Hemperly drew “road movie” for his genre. “I’m very grateful to Joe & John to allow me to come down to produce their film again this year. When I was a young boy, I loved movies with comedy along with dancing & singing, and thought if only I could grow up and be in films... Well, at least, this allows me to flirt with that idea,” laughs David Hemperly.

Actor Joe Swider says, “The 48 Hour Film contest is my favorite way to experiment with making short films. Besides, it’s a great way to bring local talent together right here in New Orleans.” Swider is completing the full feature movie “Girls Gone Gangsta” (working title) with his brother which they hope to release soon. The film has a cameo appearance by “Fellow Louisianan,” and Golden Globe winner, John Goodman.

Hemperly has completed projects in Washington, DC and New Orleans, LA a multiple of times. Joe Swider & David Hemperly once collaborated in 2005 with their first, a silent film, “Moron Interrupted.” It and the other previous films can be seen online via You Tube.
